What is Root Cause Therapy?
Root Cause Therapy (RCT) is a powerful methodology aimed at uncovering and addressing the fundamental causes of various issues in your life. These can range from mental health challenges like depression and anxiety to addictions, behavioral problems, relationship issues and even personal development hurdles such as money blocks. By targeting the root cause, we can effectively address and resolve these issues, leading to lasting change and improvement in your overall well-being.
Root Cause Therapy was developed by The Centre for Healing in Australia. It draws from different processes, including NLP, Regression Therapy, Timeline Therapy, Talk Therapy, Inner Child Healing and Somatic practices.
Why We Do What We Do
One of the primary focuses of this approach is understanding why we set goals or fail to achieve them, why we want to change but can’t, why we procrastinate, and why we engage in negative habits or self-talk. Many of these behaviors stem from underlying issues buried deep within our unconscious mind.
The Iceberg Model
Imagine an iceberg. The visible part above the water represents our conscious mind, the part we are aware of and actively use. However, the vast majority of the iceberg lies beneath the surface, unseen but immensely powerful—this is our unconscious mind.

Our conscious mind accounts for only about 10% of our mental activity. It includes our immediate awareness, thoughts, and perceptions. For example, you are consciously reading this blog right now. But as I direct your attention to the sensation of your foot on the floor, you become aware of something that was previously in the background.
In contrast, the unconscious mind, which makes up the remaining 90%, is where most of our mental processes occur. It controls automatic functions like our heartbeat, habitual behaviors, emotions, thought patterns, and stores all our memories. This immense power explains why willpower alone often fails to change deep-seated habits and behaviors.
How Root Cause Therapy Works
Root Cause Therapy involves tapping into the unconscious mind to uncover and address the deep-seated causes of our issues. During our sessions, you remain fully conscious and aware. It’s similar to when you’re driving or showering, and memories or thoughts spontaneously come to mind. In RCT, we create a controlled environment where you can access these memories and begin the healing process.
Healing Through Memories
Many of the issues we face today are triggered by past experiences, often from early childhood (ages 0-7) or even inherited through our DNA. Emotional distress from the past can shape our reactions and expectations, leading to anxiety and other negative emotions in the present and future.
By addressing and healing these past wounds, we can significantly reduce their impact on our current life and future. This process not only helps clear emotional baggage but also teaches you techniques to stay present and focused on your highest path.
Dr. Hawkins’ Scale of Consciousness
To understand how we can elevate our emotional state, we use Dr. Hawkins’ Scale of Consciousness. This scale categorizes emotions from lower vibrations (shame, guilt, grief, apathy, desire, pride, and anger) to higher vibrations (peace, neutrality, and joy).

Our goal in therapy is to help you move up this scale, from lower to higher emotions. Often, addictions and harmful habits are ways to momentarily escape from painful lower emotions. By healing the underlying issues, your baseline emotional state can naturally rise, leading to a more joyful and fulfilling life.
Achieving Emotional Intelligence
A significant part of our sessions focuses on developing emotional intelligence. This involves understanding your emotions, recognizing which ones are coming up, and learning how to deal with them effectively. By healing your past and aligning your future, you can achieve a state of emotional balance and well-being.
How a typical RCT session works
- The session begins with a comprehensive assessment of the individual’s history, experiences and current challenges.
- The therapist and the individual work together to identify the underlying causes of the condition, using muscle testing.
- Once the root cause is identified, the therapist and the individual work together to resolve the issue using regression and somatic processes to release the stored emotional distress in the body.
Conclusion
Root Cause Therapy is a transformative approach that helps you uncover and heal the deep-seated causes of your issues. By working with the unconscious mind, we can achieve lasting change, improve emotional intelligence, and pave the way for a more fulfilling life.
