Embodied Processing – What it is and how it can help you

I use a method called Embodied Processing (EP). It is a holistic form of somatic psychotherapy that recognizes the body’s crucial role in mental and emotional well-being. Unlike conventional therapies that primarily focus on cognitive processes or “top-down” approaches, EP emphasizes a “bottom-up” pathway. This means it starts with the body, acknowledging that our physical sensations and bodily experiences significantly influence our emotions, thoughts, and overall mental health.

A Blend of Modern Science and Ancient Wisdom

Embodied Processing is not just rooted in modern neuroscience; it also draws on the wisdom of ancient healing practices. This integrative approach combines elements from various therapeutic modalities, including:

  • Somatic Experiencing: A method that helps individuals release trauma stored in the body.
  • Internal Family Systems Therapy: A framework that explores different parts of the self and how they relate to one another.
  • Kiloby Inquiries: A practice that helps dissolve emotional pain and suffering.
  • Polyvagal Theory: A concept that explains how the nervous system regulates our emotions and social behavior.
  • Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP): A technique that explores the connection between neurological processes, language, and behavioral patterns.
  • Hypnotherapy: A method that uses guided relaxation to access the subconscious mind.
  • Attachment Theory: A framework that explores how early relationships influence our emotional development and patterns in later life.

By integrating these diverse approaches, Embodied Processing provides a comprehensive framework for healing that addresses the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.

The Power of Direct Experience

At the heart of Embodied Processing is the concept of “direct experience.” This refers to the raw, unfiltered sensations and emotions we feel in our bodies before our minds interpret or judge them. EP encourages individuals to connect with these direct experiences as a way to process and release trauma. By doing so, it helps to break the cycle of re-traumatization, allowing for the release of stuck energy and a return to a state of balance and wholeness.

Why Choose Embodied Processing?

For those struggling with the lingering effects of trauma, chronic stress, or emotional difficulties that seem resistant to traditional therapy, Embodied Processing offers a powerful alternative. By focusing on the body’s innate wisdom and its role in healing, Embodied Processing provides a pathway to deeper, more lasting change. It empowers individuals to reconnect with their authentic selves, restoring a sense of balance, wholeness, and well-being.

What I offer

Deep somatic therapy for nervous system regulation, emotional processing, trauma healing. This work supports you to process the emotional imprints of your past, leaving you free to meet the present without seeing through the lens of fear, shame, sadness and so on.

How I work with you

Sessions are open ended and I work intuitively and spontaneously, helping you to engage with whatever the unconscious mind reveals in the moment, as this is what needs to be explored and experienced. I use a holistic approach that offers a unique way to address mental health and trauma symptoms. Unlike traditional talk therapy, we emphasise the body’s crucial role in healing emotional and mental health issues by working with the emotions stored in the body.

Together we focus on your “direct experience,” rooted in bodily sensations, and move beyond the secondary interpretations of the thinking mind. By facing and processing your underlying sensations, these session helps you break free from trauma loops, release trapped energy, and reconnect with your authentic self, restoring balance and wholeness. Restoring sense of safety in the body.

What to Expect in a Somatic Therapy Session

During a somatic therapy session, I guide you in gently and mindfully exploring your body’s inner sensations. Through thoughtful questions, prompts, and techniques, we work together to uncover and release the hidden emotions, beliefs, or tensions that may be causing discomfort, allowing for greater ease and freedom afterward.

We start by establishing a sense of safety, ensuring that you feel secure enough to delve into your body and the pain it might be holding onto.

Once a safe space is created, we invite any emotions, memories, beliefs, or parts of yourself that are contributing to your struggles. We focus on whatever arises naturally and requires attention.

Using targeted questions and somatic tools, I help you deepen your awareness of the issue. As we navigate through this experience, I support you in processing and integrating any emotional layers that surface, allowing for healing and transformation.

Throughout the session, I offer insights into the workings of the nervous system and the connection between thoughts and emotions. This understanding helps you become more aware of what’s happening within you.

Additionally, I provide you with practical tools and techniques that you can use in your daily life to continue your healing journey.
